The Unexpected Perk of Reschedules (aka thank you, unpredictable weather)
If you’ve ever tried to plan anything outdoors in Savannah, you know that the weather plays by its own rules. One minute it’s sunshine and blue skies. The next, it’s “should we build an ark?” So, when Alicia and her mom had to reschedule our original senior session date, I knew the weather was giving us the big “eh.”
Luckily, our second attempt had way better vibes. Sunshine, a light breeze, and just the right kind of light to make that pink floral dress she wore absolutely sing in the photos. As someone who always wants my seniors to feel 100% confident and not battling humidity curls or sideways rain, this new date was it.
Plus, there was something sentimental in the air too. I photographed Alicia’s older sister a few years ago, so this session felt like a full-circle moment. I love watching siblings grow and celebrating new chapters with the same sweet families.
Let’s walk through how a one-location, two-outfit session can bring out the magic – even on quiet side streets and tucked-away corners of Savannah.
Making the Most Out of a One-Location Senior Session
Alicia booked a senior casual session – which includes one location and up to two outfits. Some people worry this might feel limiting, but trust me… it’s all about what you do with it. Quality over chaos wins every time.
Here’s why her choice of location and outfit worked so beautifully:
- Location: Crawford Square & Nearby Side Streets
Downtown Savannah is full of personality, especially the squares and tiny historic corners. Crawford Square brought in those classic backgrounds without the constant hustle of tourist-heavy areas. Translation: More time to shoot, less time dodging segways and bike tours and we can walk from our meeting spot to at least one other square! - Outfit: Pink, Floral, and Timeless
Alicia’s full-length pink dress with floral details felt fresh and classic – perfect against the brick paths and greenery. It flowed beautifully when she moved, which gave us natural movement (aka no awkward posing needed). - Mom in Tow: The Built-in Cheer Squad
I love when moms come along for the session. Alicia’s mom gave quiet encouragement the entire time, and it meant the world. If you’re a senior reading this, bring your mom. For real. These sessions turn into memories for you both.
My Top Tips If You’re Considering a Single Location Session
If you’re planning your senior portraits and trying to figure out whether one location is enough, here’s how to set yourself up for success:
Pick a location with variety
Some spots (like Crawford Square) give you diverse backdrops within a few blocks – think urban charm, greenery, and architectural detail. You don’t need five locations if one has layers.
Outfit choice matters more than you think
In Alicia’s case, the dress gave us something soft and elegant to counter the cobblestone and structure of the space. If you go with only one or two looks, make sure they photograph well in motion and reflect your personality. Comfort + confidence = gold.
Trust your photographer to guide the shoot
I never just show up with a camera and say “okay, now pose?” You’ll get direction throughout… where to walk, how to turn, when to laugh at nothing (and I promise you’ll look cute doing it). This is where that “big sister” energy comes in. I’ve got you.
