A Sweet Savannah Session with Alicia: A Pink Dress, Side Streets, and Sister Legacy

< back to blog

The image shows a young woman standing outdoors beside a pastel-colored building. The wall behind her is divided into two sections: the left side is painted turquoise blue, and the right side is light pink. Both sections have white-framed windows with black shutters. The pink side features a black flower box filled with green plants. A slender tree with light brown bark stands at the junction of the two wall colors, with some green leaves and small clusters of buds hanging down.
The woman is wearing a light pink floral dress with a slit on one side and matching sandals. She has light hair and is smiling slightly, posing with one hand gently touching her hair. The ground is made of red brick, adding warmth to the scene. The overall mood is cheerful and summery, with a pleasing contrast between the pastel walls, black window details, and the woman’s floral outfit.

The Unexpected Perk of Reschedules (aka thank you, unpredictable weather)

If you’ve ever tried to plan anything outdoors in Savannah, you know that the weather plays by its own rules. One minute it’s sunshine and blue skies. The next, it’s “should we build an ark?” So, when Alicia and her mom had to reschedule our original senior session date, I knew the weather was giving us the big “eh.”

Luckily, our second attempt had way better vibes. Sunshine, a light breeze, and just the right kind of light to make that pink floral dress she wore absolutely sing in the photos. As someone who always wants my seniors to feel 100% confident and not battling humidity curls or sideways rain, this new date was it.

Plus, there was something sentimental in the air too. I photographed Alicia’s older sister a few years ago, so this session felt like a full-circle moment. I love watching siblings grow and celebrating new chapters with the same sweet families.

Let’s walk through how a one-location, two-outfit session can bring out the magic – even on quiet side streets and tucked-away corners of Savannah.

This image is a collage of two photos featuring the same young woman in an outdoor park-like setting.
Left photo: The woman is sitting gracefully on a well-kept grassy lawn with one arm propped behind her and the other resting on her knee. She is wearing a long, soft pink floral dress with lace details and thin straps. Her blonde hair is styled in loose waves, and she wears a subtle pearl necklace. In the background, pastel-colored houses and large trees create a calm, Southern neighborhood atmosphere.
Right photo: The woman is walking along a narrow gravel path, looking confident and smiling softly. Her dress flows slightly with her movement, and she appears relaxed and natural. The background features greenery, trees, and a lamppost, adding charm to the scene.
Overall, the image conveys a serene and elegant vibe, highlighting the subject’s grace and confidence in a beautiful outdoor environment.

Making the Most Out of a One-Location Senior Session

Alicia booked a senior casual session – which includes one location and up to two outfits. Some people worry this might feel limiting, but trust me… it’s all about what you do with it. Quality over chaos wins every time.

Here’s why her choice of location and outfit worked so beautifully:

  • Location: Crawford Square & Nearby Side Streets
Downtown Savannah is full of personality, especially the squares and tiny historic corners. Crawford Square brought in those classic backgrounds without the constant hustle of tourist-heavy areas. Translation: More time to shoot, less time dodging segways and bike tours and we can walk from our meeting spot to at least one other square!
  • Outfit: Pink, Floral, and Timeless
Alicia’s full-length pink dress with floral details felt fresh and classic – perfect against the brick paths and greenery. It flowed beautifully when she moved, which gave us natural movement (aka no awkward posing needed).
  • Mom in Tow: The Built-in Cheer Squad
I love when moms come along for the session. Alicia’s mom gave quiet encouragement the entire time, and it meant the world. If you’re a senior reading this, bring your mom. For real. These sessions turn into memories for you both.

This image collage features two photos of a young woman posing outdoors in a charming urban setting.
Left photo: The woman stands in front of a beige wall with two windows, each adorned with black shutters and ornate black iron grilles. Beneath the windows are flower boxes overflowing with colorful blooms — including bright pink, orange, and green foliage — that cascade down the wall. She is wearing a long, soft pink floral dress with lace detailing and thin straps, paired with sandals and a pearl necklace. She has a calm, pleasant expression, her hands gently clasped in front of her.
Right photo: The woman is walking along a narrow paved path lined with low greenery and overhanging trees covered in white blossoms. She looks off to the side with a lighthearted smile, her hair gently flowing as she holds part of her dress in one hand. In the background, there’s a light blue house with white trim and a matching gate, adding a cozy neighborhood feel to the scene.
Overall, the image captures a warm, graceful, and summery atmosphere with a balance of elegance and natural charm.

My Top Tips If You’re Considering a Single Location Session

If you’re planning your senior portraits and trying to figure out whether one location is enough, here’s how to set yourself up for success:

Pick a location with variety

Some spots (like Crawford Square) give you diverse backdrops within a few blocks – think urban charm, greenery, and architectural detail. You don’t need five locations if one has layers.

Outfit choice matters more than you think

In Alicia’s case, the dress gave us something soft and elegant to counter the cobblestone and structure of the space. If you go with only one or two looks, make sure they photograph well in motion and reflect your personality. Comfort + confidence = gold.

Trust your photographer to guide the shoot

I never just show up with a camera and say “okay, now pose?” You’ll get direction throughout… where to walk, how to turn, when to laugh at nothing (and I promise you’ll look cute doing it). This is where that “big sister” energy comes in. I’ve got you.

This image collage features two portraits of a young woman in a peaceful outdoor setting with charming Southern-style architecture.
Left photo: The woman is shown from the waist up, standing beside a white wooden structure, possibly a porch post. She is wearing a soft pink floral lace dress and a delicate pearl necklace, with her blonde hair styled in loose waves. Her expression is calm and friendly, and the background shows pastel-colored buildings — one blue and one pink — adding a bright, cheerful atmosphere.
Right photo: The woman is standing near a white gazebo surrounded by lush greenery. She looks over her shoulder with a gentle smile, her dress flowing softly and lace ribbons trailing from her shoulders. The setting has a romantic, timeless feel, with the gazebo’s latticework and the surrounding bushes enhancing the elegant, classic aesthetic.
Overall, the image conveys warmth, grace, and a touch of Southern charm, highlighting the subject’s soft, natural beauty in an inviting environment.
