This year I’ve gotten a little slack on getting my family in front of the camera. I usually do at least one family “session” for each quarter but I realized mid-September we hadn’t been in front of the camera since our Memorial Day weekend beach trip. I decided it was time to grab some fall photos – since Christmas photo time is right around the corner and armed with a color palette from one amazing client and a location from another I gave Chris a date and we did the thing.
Family Session Pain Points
From the get go we were struggling… When we arrived on Hutchinson Ada was asleep and Christopher was complaining of a headache that “hurts so bad my legs won’t work”. After we sorted the two of them out, thankfully getting a happy Ada upon waking we headed to the spot near the river where I like to shoot. Well, we ended up having to back track and go back to the truck because the path was blocked by construction. We finally figured out how to get to the “good spot” and found a place to park but the sun was going down quickly, and of course Christopher’s legs were still “an issue” LOL
Downtown Savannah Family Photos
I love sessions by the river, on the Hutchinson Island side. I honestly could do without River Street as a location but it does make a nice backdrop! For time reasons we decided to drive over to Hutchinson but taking the ferry over is usually what I do. It’s a good “treat” at the beginning and end of the session for kids and you don’t have to deal with the construction over on the island.
Hutchinson Island Family Session
My FAVORITE!! shot from Hutchinson is from a corner of the river front. It’s a great shot especially for individual photos and because of the angle with a little bit of help from a parent it’s a safe but dramatic shot! It may look like they are right on the edge but Chris is right there in the V holding legs tight.
Getting kids to cooperate for family sessions
After Ada falling asleep, Christopher “not being able to use his legs”, and the construction reroute I didn’t think I would get many decent pictures. At one point I told Chris we should just pack it up and not try but he convinced me to set the tripod up and go for it since we were there and I’m happy I did. Ada was in her element and Christopher played along enough to make it count LOL!
