This basic cookie dough is easy to whip up, scoop out, and freeze. Some simple changes provide 3 different cookies, chocolate chip, m&m, and double chocolate chip. What a great treat to have on hand for a sweet something any day of the week!
Basic Ingredients
- 1 stick of butter
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 3/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 egg
- splash of vanilla extract
- 2 1/4 cup flour
- 1 tsp baking soda
Ingredients for variations
- chocolate chips
- unsweetened cocoa powder
- m&ms
Making the Basic Dough
For the basic cookie recipe you will want the butter and egg at room temperature. Start by beating the butter and sugar together until smooth, add in the egg and vanilla and continue to beat until incorporated.
Once you’ve completed this aspect of the basic dough you will choose which of the variation you want to make.
For the m&m cookies: Slowly add 2 1/4 cup flour and baking soda. Mix well.
For the chocolate chip cookies: Slowly add 2 1/4 cup flour and baking soda. Mix well. Once the flour is mixed in add the chocolate chips
For the double chocolate chip cookies: Slowly add 2 cups of flour, 1/4 cup of unsweetened cocoa powder, and backing soda. Mix well. Once dry ingredients are mixed in add the chocolate chips.
Once you have your dough whipped up, use a scoop to portion out on a half pan lined with parchment paper.
Freezing the Dough
Stick the sheet pan in the freezer for 30 minutes to an hour. Once they are “flash frozen” you can bag them up into gallon freezer bags.
Ready to Bake
When you’re ready to bake, preheat the oven to 350. Take out the number of cookies you wish to bake and place them on a baking sheet. Bake 11-13 minutes. If you are making m&m cookies you will stick 3 m&ms into the cookies right when you take them out of the oven.
Easy Peasy
There you have it! An easy basic dough that can easily make 3 different cookies. Being able to freeze them to pull a cookie or two here and there makes it even better!
