Why spring family photoshoots are better than fall photoshoots | Jaden Giorgianni Photography

And summer…

And that’s right, I said it! All the rush for fall family photos and really I get it, holiday cards and you want the latest and most updated photos to send to your friends and families BUT I’m here today to tell you that spring and summer family sessions are WAY WAY better than fall ones! Here’s why!

The light

It’s SO MUCH PRETTIER in the spring (and summer). Sure, when the light is good in the fall it’s got that glowy fall undertone but honestly I shoot more grey days in the fall than bright ones and it kind of stinks. I know everyone thinks overcast is great for photos but really here in Savannah I prefer the sun.

Sure the overcast is better for places without tree cover but other than marshes, marinas, and the beach Savannah is pretty much covered by trees. The sun glowing through the moss and oaks is always better than an overcast sky – in my opinion.

So book those spring sessions and bask in the sunshine and warmth while also getting glowy and light filled family photos you will love for years and years!

Rescheduling for weather is easier

Watching the weather is always a thing for Savannah family photos but in the spring it’s a lot easier to make the decision to reschedule because there is plenty of time to find a different date. In the fall there is a limited amount of time and often your photographer’s calendar is already full with other obligations.

If you book in the spring and the weather is an issue you aren’t forced to “make it work” or show up and pray the rain holds off for just long enough to do the session.

The cold can also be an issue in the fall – I know, it’s not the worst here but sometimes it can get chilly, especially for the little ones and in the spring and summer that’s not really an issue.

Now you may counter with “yes, but in the summer we will sweat to death” and you aren’t wrong but I’m not saying schedule in July – unless you’re on vacation and that’s your only option – I’m saying being a little warm is better than being a little cold and when you have little kids in the mix having them complaining about the cold doesn’t make the session fun for anyone in the family.

Daylight Saving Time

Do I need to elaborate? LOL!

Longer days means more time, specifically after work, for family photos. Weekends book up fast, year round but especially in the fall, and with the limited amount of daylight after the time changes that really limits the dates and times for…you guessed it weather reschedules!

In the spring we can shoot later in the day if needed to accommodate the working hours or after school activities you may have and not always have to take up a weekend date to get family photos done. I know I like it when I can check something off the list mid week and not have to spend time over the weekend on a task!
